NEET-UG 2026 Revised Syllabus: Big news has emerged for lakhs of students preparing for the medical entrance examination. The country's most prestigious medical entrance exam, NEET-UG, will now be conducted based on a new syllabus, deviating from the old pattern. This change will directly impact students who are preparing with in-depth knowledge of the NCERT syllabus for classes 11th and 12th.

Changes in the NEET-UG 2026 Syllabus
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has revised the syllabus for the NEET-UG examination. Complete details of the updated syllabus related to Physics, Chemistry, and Biology have been released on the NMC's official website, nmc.org.in. Although the commission has not officially stated the reason for the change, education experts believe that the new syllabus places greater emphasis on the core concepts of classes 11th and 12th.

Who will benefit, and who will be affected?
The new syllabus is expected to benefit students who are studying with conceptual clarity. However, this change may prove challenging for candidates who rely solely on coaching notes or rote learning. According to experts, this step is considered a move towards improving the quality of medical education.

The 2026 NEET exam will be based on the new syllabus.
The NMC's Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) has clarified that the NEET-UG examination in 2026 will be conducted according to this updated syllabus. The NMC has advised students to select their study material according to the new syllabus and start their preparation promptly. This syllabus, released for the 2026-27 academic session, is available on the NMC website.

When can registration begin?
Based on the trends of previous years, NEET UG 2026 registration is likely to begin in the first week of February. The exam date and notification will be released soon on the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) – neet.nta.nic.in.

What is the NEET exam, and how many seats are available? The NEET UG exam provides admission to courses like MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, BHMS, and BVSC & AH in medical colleges across the country. Approximately 1.28 lakh seats are available for MBBS alone, while around 24 lakh students appear for this exam every year.

Preparation for Face Biometric Verification
To enhance the transparency of the examination, the NTA (National Testing Agency) is preparing to implement another major change. From 2026 onwards, ID verification in exams like NEET and JEE may be done using face recognition technology. This will include an option to take a live photo during the application process. According to sources, a pilot project of Aadhaar-based face authentication has already been conducted at some examination centers in Delhi during the 2025 NEET exam.
