The release of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has brought renewed attention to the ongoing discussion around lyric credits in Bollywood remixes. Soon after the film hit theatres today Rakesh Anand Bakshi son of legendary lyricist Anand Bakshi reiterated his objections to the way credits were assigned for the recreated version of the classic song Saat Samundar Paar. At first the issue appeared to be a routine credit listing but a closer look revealed why it mattered to him. What did Rakesh Anand Bakshi say? Rakesh Anand Bakshi questioned this practice stating that adding one or two lines to an existing song does not justify co-lyricist status. He argued that just like music credits differentiate between “original” and “additional” composition lyrics should follow the same transparent format. Explaining his stance Rakesh shared “The producer and/or publisher should not claim credit for any writer singer etc. as co-lyricist for adding one or two lines to the original lyrics. Like they’ve put original/additional music in the credits they could have done it with the lyrics too. This is the format which is currently used on streaming platforms.” He further said “I appreciate that the singer has recomposed the song at a slower pace and sung it well. However I do not appreciate the recreated lyrics as they do not match the thought behind the earlier verse. There is a clear mismatch and it breaks the continuity of the original verse.” He concluded by urging equal respect for lyricists saying he had no further opinion beyond that. The song was composed by Viju Shah sung by Sadhana Sargam and Udit Narayan and written by Anand Bakshi. In the remix version used in Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri the lyrics have been credited to Anand Bakshi along with Karan Nawani. More about Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri released in theatres today and has received a largely poor reception from both audiences and critics. While Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday lead the cast the film also features Neena Gupta Jackie Shroff and Tiku Talsania in key roles. Written by Karan Shrikant Sharma and directed by Sameer Vidwans the film’s music drew attention ahead of release but its overall response has remained underwhelming.
