BSNL 3G update: In a big event in the history of Indian telecom services BSNL is reportedly preparing to shut down its 3G mobile services across the country. In the recent update multiple media reports have covered that a major shift is on the horizon as government-owned telecom company BSNL may shut down a service affecting millions of users. In a matter of bad news for millions of BSNL users BSNL has taken a significant decision that could directly impact customers still relying on older mobile networks. How is BSNL’s 4G network rollout? Aimed at strengthening BSNL’s 4G network rollout and preparing the ground for future 5G services BSNL could stop its 3G services across the nation. As part of this transition BSNL is also planning to end its maintenance contracts with Nokia and Chinese firm ZTE. Notably Nokia and ZTE are the companies which are currently responsible for managing the 3G network infrastructure of BSNL. BSNL 3G services shutdown: What can users do? As reported carried by Mint the decision of BSNL could affect a large number of users who are still using BSNL 3G SIM cards especially in areas where BSNL’s 4G services have not yet been launched. Therefore in order to avoid disruption in the services BSNL 3G users are advised to visit their nearest BSNL service centre and upgrade their SIM cards to a 4G or upcoming 5G SIM as soon as possible. About BSNL’s 3G network Reports further state that on December 10 BSNL issued a letter to the Chief General Managers of all telecom circles authorising them to shut down 3G services wherever 4G coverage has progressed. For a background BSNL’s 3G network operates in around 5863 towns and cities across India at present. Hence the customers in these regions may face connectivity issues once the shutdown begins.
