In 2025, Apple has announced an important change for its users. This year, the company discontinued around 25 devices and accessories. These include famous products like iPhone SE, MacBook Air M3 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. This is not just a process of removing the old model, but a part of Apple’s new strategy to permanently say goodbye to features like the Home button, Touch ID and the Lightning port. Now Apple’s ecosystem looks more compact, USB-C based and future-oriented.
Apple discontinued the iPhone SE (3rd Gen) in February 2025. With this, the history of iPhones with home button, Touch ID and small display has ended. All new iPhones now feature Face ID, OLED screens, and USB-C ports.
iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 15 Plus are gradually being removed from the market in 2025. It appears that the iPhone 16 Plus may also be discontinued in the future. Now the company is focusing on the iPhone Air, which will replace the Plus model with an ultra-thin design.
A total of seven iPhone models were discontinued this year. These include iPhone 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15, 15 Plus, iPhone 14, 14 Plus and iPhone SE. These products have been replaced by the new iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 16e.
The iPad Pro M4, iPad Air M2, and the 10th Gen iPad were discontinued. Apart from this, Apple Watch Ultra 2, Series 10 and SE 2 also had to say goodbye. Although new models have come, there has been no major change in the design.
The Mac Studio (M2 Max/Ultra), 14-inch MacBook Pro M4, and MacBook Air M2/M3 variants were discontinued in 2025. The result is that the Mac lineup has become simpler and cleaner.
AirPods Pro 3 has been launched in place of AirPods Pro 2. The Vision Pro M2 has also been replaced by the new version. The biggest change was the discontinuation of the Lightning to 3.5mm audio cable, allowing Apple to complete the USB-C transition.
