I was behind the scenes at Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul and saw the star of 2026 emerge

There has been so much noise around the Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul fight, most of it from people who weren't there. Here's my view of what I saw during the two weeks I spent in Miami with Caroline Dubois, during the build-up and at ringside.

First of all it was a big show. And it felt like it, though most, as usual, came for the main event. My voice echoed about the arena early on, shouting encouragement to Caroline, who won with something to spare.

Paul showed tremendous courage. The jump from fighting someone like Tommy Fury, a small cruiserweight, to a fully blown, 21st century heavyweight world champion was massive.

Miami fell in love with Joshua, And why wouldn't it? He is charming and charismatic. Being out there I understood why he accepted the fight. It was all upside for him.

I have no doubt Joshua took it seriously. He didn't rush in but still did a clinical job. It felt authentic to me. Say what you like about Paul, he took his lumps. He genuinely believed he had a chance even if everyone else thought he had a screw loose.

I don't know what was in his head but he must have thought there was hope. Why else would you go in there and take a beating and suffer a broken jaw in two places? I could see Joshua wasn't in a hurry. Maybe he just didn't want to give Paul a sniff, any chance whatsoever.

Some think he should have got him out early. Instead, he fought with the brakes on, knowing that he had eight rounds to get the job done. Plus, Paul was evasive in the early rounds because he quickly worked out he was in too deep and responded accordingly.

It wasn't pretty for sure. In truth he never stood a chance but he had to find that out for himself. The intrigue for me was how long he would last. I thought it was absorbing in its own way. You have to give Paul his props for taking some heavy leather. He was thrashed, pure and simple.

Either you believe Joshua propped him up for a few rounds or you take the view, like I did, that Joshua made it a straightforward night for himself by being methodical. Wherever you stand it was a great night, with some terrific fights on the undercard, particularly the women on the show.

The whole thing ran seamlessly and in supporting female boxing Paul is doing the sport a real service. Caroline lit up the place, as we knew she would. Now watch her fly in 2026.
