West Palm Beach (USA). US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that his country had carried out a “powerful and deadly” attack targeting Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) bases in Nigeria. Earlier, for several weeks, Trump had been accusing the Nigerian government of failing to stop atrocities against Christians. In his social media post on Christmas night, Trump informed about the attack, but did not share details of the damage caused or other information.
America’s Africa Command posted on ‘ Launched a powerful and deadly attack against ISIS terrorists in north-western Nigeria. These terrorists have been killing mercilessly for many years, especially targeting innocent Christians.
On the condition of anonymity, a Defense Department official said that America carried out this attack in collaboration with Nigeria and this action had the consent of the Nigerian government. Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry said the cooperation included intelligence exchange and strategic coordination in accordance with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security. “Terrorist violence of any kind is a serious challenge to Nigeria’s values and international peace and security,” the ministry said in a statement. Be it against Christians, Muslims or any other community.
Last month, Trump ordered the Pentagon (headquarters of the US Defense Department) to plan for possible military action to stop the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Recently, the US State Department also announced that the visas of Nigerians and their families involved in murder and violence against Christians will be banned.
