James: Following an assault, Bangladesh’s well-known band icon James (Nagar Baul), which was supposed to take place on the last day of the 185th anniversary celebrations of Faridpur Zilla School, was postponed and then canceled. The event resulted in at least 25 injuries.

On Friday night, the concert was scheduled to start on the school grounds at about 9:30 p.m. A gang of outsiders tried to break into the arena just before James was scheduled to take the stage. They started throwing bricks and stones and attempted to take over the stage after being sent away. The attackers were forced to flee when the students at Faridpur Zilla School resisted the onslaught.

“Only enrolled current and previous students were to attend the reunion and cultural event. Thousands of unregistered strangers arrived to the event after hearing about singer James. They congregated on the nearby Mujib Road after being denied entry. Later, two projectors were positioned outdoors on behalf of the organizing committee. However, the intruders made an effort to scale the wall in order to gain entry at around 9:30 p.m. They started hurling bricks and stones in the direction of the stage and the school grounds after being stopped from doing so. They grew much more hostile when the security personnel attempted to stop them. According to the newspaper Prothom Alo, “between 25 and 30 people were hurt inside the school premises as a result of the bricks and stones they threw.”

According to deshkalnews.com, at around 10:00 p.m., Mustafizur Rahman Shamim, the leader of the organizing committee, said from the stage that James’s performance had been canceled due to the unstable circumstances and in accordance with directives from the Faridpur district government.

The chairperson of the centennial festivities’ publicity and media subcommittee, Rajibul Hasan Khan, stated: “We had taken all the required steps to guarantee James’s concert’s success, but we still don’t know who attacked or why. After being struck by bricks, at least 15 to 20 children from Faridpur Zilla School suffered injuries.

He said, “Taking the overall situation into account, we were compelled to cancel the programme on the instructions of the district administration.”

On Thursday at 10:00 am, the two-day anniversary event got underway. A lottery draw, cultural performances, and James’ much anticipated band performance were all planned for Friday night as the big festivities came to an end.

One of the few schools in India founded by the government under British rule is Faridpur Zilla School. The hospital was established in 1840 and has already completed 185 years of operation. The school has contributed significantly to the education, culture, history, and several social and political movements in the area since its founding.
