The band confirmed on Friday that Bamonte passed away at the age of 65 after a brief illness at his home over Christmas. Known for his quiet yet intensely creative nature Bamonte played a vital role in shaping the sound of one of rock music’s most iconic groups.

Bamonte affectionately known as “Teddy” among his friends and bandmates became a full member of The Cure in 1990. He was described by the band as “quiet intensive intuitive constant and hugely creative” and was considered a warm-hearted and integral part of The Cure’s story. The band extended its condolences to his family and expressed how deeply he will be missed.
The illustrious career of Perry Bamonte
Bamonte’s journey with The Cure began in 1984 when he joined the band’s roadcrew. He eventually became a full-fledged member playing guitar six-string bass and keyboards. His first tenure lasted 14 years during which he performed in over 400 shows. He later rejoined the band in 2022 and participated in another 90 performances.
Robert Smith the 66-year-old frontman of The Cure has always been known for his innovation and stage presence and Bamonte’s contributions helped define the band’s sound throughout its decades-long career.

Lol Tolhurst former drummer of The Cure shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram expressing sorrow at Bamonte’s passing and sending condolences to all who knew him. “Farewell Teddy” Tolhurst wrote remembering his friend and collaborator.
