The accused are clerk Durgashankar Singarha (58) and his associate Pyun Mukesh Sen, who were arrested by the police from home, produced in the court and sent to jail. The victim told that about 20 days ago, information about contractual recruitment was received through social media. When he contacted the law department of the university, Durga Shankar asked him for documents and assured him of getting a job. The accused claimed that he was well acquainted with the Vice-Chancellor, due to which he won the girl's trust and implicated her.

Why was Christmas day chosen?

Police investigation revealed that on December 25, i.e. the Christmas holiday, the accused clerk called the girl to Krishi Nagar Colony located on the university campus for an interview. From there he took her to the house of his associate Peon Mukesh Sen. It is alleged that Mukesh closed the door of the room from outside, after which Durgashankar raped the girl.

How did the police catch the accused clerk and peon?

The next day after the incident, the victim reached Aadhartal police station and narrated her entire ordeal to the police. The police immediately registered an FIR and caught the accused from their house. Jewel in-charge Praveen Kumre said that a case has been registered against both the accused under the section of gang rape. After presenting them in court, both were sent to jail.

Did job hoax become social media trap?

This incident made it clear that girls can be trapped on the pretext of social media job links and campus invitations. Youth and students need to be cautious and should not trust any unknown person or clerk. Which has created serious concerns about safety among youth and parents. The police and the university administration have assured to increase security measures to prevent such crimes in future.

Need for warning and protection

This incident at Jabalpur Agricultural University is a warning signal for both the university and the society. Experts say that youth should be cautious about social media and job scams. Sometimes people take them into confidence by promising them a job and then commit a crime. In such cases, only awareness and swift action by the police can keep the youth safe. This case is a warning message not only for Jabalpur University, but for the students and youth of the entire region. Youth and girl students should get correct information before falling prey to any job and keep their documents safe.
