Let's be honest, now all the festivities are over, we're looking for comfort before the New Year's Resolution era kicks in. Whether that's allowing yourself to lie in front of the TV all day under a heated blanket, or going out with your friends on the tiles for extended Christmas drinks, everyone's idea of comfort is different.

But, when it comes to food, we can all agree that comfort foods are usually tasty and packed full of flavour.

When you think of your preferred method of making eggs, you may turn to poached, fried, or scrambled. But what most people don't think about is a little-known method which is the most comforting of all, perfect for when you're feeling slightly under the weather, or in need of some nostalgia.

"I never see people making eggs like this, and I can't stop making them," @cocolarkincooks wrote over her video on TikTok.

She said where she grew up, a local French bakery used to sell this, but she's never seen it on a menu since she was young, so this method of making eggs evokes strong memories in her.

Coco explained she used to eat eggs like this "all the time" and still does "to this day," but because the method is niche, she wanted to share it with others.

"This is eggs in a cup," she shared, explaining how to make this, first you need to boil your eggs - ideally three.

"Set a timer for six and a half minutes," she shared, and while you're doing this, toast a slice of bread. Coco explained she made bread from scratch, but obviously, this isn't mandatory.

She said: "I've got a bowl full of ice water for the eggs, and after six and a half minutes, the eggs go into the ice bath."

Then, you should "generously butter your bread," recommending you "use the good butter". "When you're using just three ingredients, use the best," she said.

She then peeled the eggs, put them into the cup and seasoned with salt and pepper.

Coco then broke one of the eggs, saying it had a "perfectly runny centre". But this wasn't the last step, as you need to then "smush it all up" until it looks perfectly gooey and is the ideal texture.

She explained the best way to eat it is by spooning bits of the egg onto the well-buttered bread. After taking a bite, she said: "Eggs in a cup are the best things ever."

In the comments, someone wrote: "Reading the comments, realising the rest of Ireland calls it guggy egg when I've only ever known it as egg in a cup."

"My dad made that for us in the morning quickly before school," another reminisced.

Somebody shared how to make it even more decadent, writing: "We added butter into a warm egg when mashing it up in the cup!"
