US president Donald Trump is now showing "alarming cognitive decline" as he is compared to an "alcoholic" and a "dementia patient".

The President's mental and physical wellbeing has been under scrutiny in recent months.

White House chief of staff Susie Wiles recently said Mr Trump has an "alcoholic's personality", despite the fact that he does not drink alcohol. After the interview with Vanity Fair, Ms Wiles claimed the outlet left out "significant context" to create "an overwhelmingly chaotic and negative narrative" about the administration.

Now, Trump biographer Michael Wolff has claimed that Trump has more of a "dementia patient" personality. Mr Trump has always maintained he is healthy and has "aced" a series of cognitive tests.

Speaking on the 'Inside Trump's head podcast', Mr Wolff said: "Susie Wiles might just as well have said that it's like dealing with a dementia patient. The uninhibited aspects of his personality - anger, self-pity...become increasingly more uninhibited.

"He opens his mouth, and you go ', this is a problem.'"

Mr Wolff added that Trump's alleged issues with health and age share similarities with how the Democrats were said to have hidden Joe Biden's alleged problems.

He continued: "There is no way to diagnose the President. Clearly, Joe Biden had enormous cognitive difficulties. Everyone around him closed ranks to protect him. There is no mechanism for an objective diagnosis. This is not different now for Donald Trump.

"There is no way for us to say 'he is experiencing cognitive issues of an alarming variety. Although Susie Wiles' 'alcoholic personality' comment was curious."

Trump's physical wellbeing has also come under scrutiny after he had an MRI scan. The White House publishes results from the tests, saying they came back "perfectly normal."

As for the bruising pictured on Trump's hand, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said this is due to the President shaking hands with numerous people every day.
