Mathews has won the title of ‘ICC Women’s Player of the Month’ for the fourth time. Previously, it had won this honor in November 2021, October 2023 and April 2024. With this fourth award, Mathews has become the joint cricketer with Australia’s Ash Gardner to win the most ‘ICC Women’s Player of the Month’ titles. The West Indies captain has received this honor after his excellent performance in the T20 format. As captain, he won the home T20 series against South Africa 2-1. With this, Haley Mathews also became the ‘Player of the Series’.
On winning the ICC Women’s Player of the Month title for the fourth time, Hayley Matthews said, “It’s an honor to win the Player of the Month award again. I’m happy with my recent performances, but what’s more important is to contribute to the team’s success, especially in the intensely competitive T20 series against South Africa.” Matthews said, “Such honors are appreciated, but I am focused on the goals ahead. I still want to achieve a lot individually and with this team. We are moving in the right direction. I am excited to see how far we can go from here.”
Hayley Mathews scored 147 runs at an average of 73.50 in the T20 series played against South Africa in June. Mathews scored 19 runs in the first match of the three-match series against South Africa, then played innings of 63 and 65 runs. Hayley Mathews’ two consecutive half-centuries helped West Indies win the series 2-1 after being 0-1 down. However, due to shoulder problem, she could not perform well in the ODI series against South Africa.
