Vikram Bhatt and wife Shwetambari denied bail for second time in rs 30 crore IVF fraud case

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari Bhatt landed in legal trouble after they were arrested in an IVF fraud case. The two then applied for bail and to their disappointment their pleas were turned down by the Udaipur court. The order issued on December 24 marks the second instance in which the court has denied them relief. Earlier their bail plea was rejected on December 16 after they sought interim bail on medical grounds. Giving the reason for denying bail the court said that the ongoing matter and the sensitive nature of the investigation were the key grounds on which the bail pleas were rejected. The court also mentioned that the investigation is at a crucial stage and that more arrests based on the information may be made. The order dated December 24 marks the second time the court has denied them relief. Earlier on December 16 their plea for interim bail on medical grounds was also rejected. The case stems from a complaint filed by Udaipur-based businessman Dr Ajay Murdia alleging that he invested up to Rs 30 crore in collaboration with Vikram Bhatt. He produced several films including a biopic on his late wife Indira. The investigation has already led to multiple arrests. Before the Bhatt couple were arrested co-producer Mehboob Ansari and a vendor identified as Sandeep were arrested in connection with the case. Police stated that the matter is linked to a proposed biopic on Dr Murdia’s late wife. An official told PTI “Murdia owner of Indira IVF Hospital wanted to make a biopic on his late wife. He has alleged that he was promised earnings of Rs 200 crore. But nothing materialised after which Murdia approached Bhopalpura police station in Udaipur where an FIR was registered for cheating and other offences.”
