Renowned Pakistani television host and actress Nadia Khan is facing strong criticism on social media after an apparent shift in her stance regarding acclaimed drama writer Umera Ahmed. The backlash follows Khan’s recent praise for Ahmed’s drama Kafeel, which many viewers say contradicts her earlier criticism of the same writer.
Nadia Khan is regarded as one of Pakistan’s senior showbiz personalities, having worked in the entertainment industry for several decades. She has appeared in numerous popular television dramas and currently hosts the morning show Rise and Shine while also serving as a panelist on the drama review program Kya Drama Hai, where she is known for her outspoken and often blunt critiques of television content.
In a recent episode, Khan unexpectedly praised Umera Ahmed’s writing, calling her one of Pakistan’s top drama writers. She stated that Ahmed’s stature as a writer makes it inappropriate to assign her ratings. Khan added that she has read Ahmed’s novels and once dreamed of interviewing her, saying that giving her numerical scores would be “disrespectful.”
“I cannot rate Umera Ahmed. She is among Pakistan’s finest writers, and as a viewer, I hold her work in high regard,” Khan said during the show.
However, this statement sparked intense debate online, with drama viewers recalling Khan’s earlier harsh criticism of Umera Ahmed during reviews of the drama Jannat Se Aagay. That drama revolved around the life of a morning show host, a theme that many believe personally offended Khan.
Social media users accused Nadia Khan of inconsistency, with several reminding her of her strong negative comments about Jannat Se Aagay. One user wrote that Khan had deliberately disrespected the writer during earlier reviews, while another commented that it was surprising and amusing to see such a dramatic change in tone.
Others pointed out that Nadia Khan was among the most aggressive critics of Jannat Se Aagay, suggesting that her current praise contradicts her previous stance. Some users also claimed that Khan may have conveniently forgotten her earlier statements criticizing Umera Ahmed’s decision to focus on a morning show host in the storyline.
Adding to the debate, actress Sarwat Gilani also weighed in, advising Nadia Khan to speak with dignity rather than adopting a confrontational tone during critiques.
The controversy has reignited discussions about objectivity, personal bias, and accountability among television critics. While some defended Nadia Khan’s right to change her opinion, others argued that public figures should acknowledge past statements to maintain credibility.
