Lucknow, Read: Lucknow players continue to perform brilliantly in the Uttar Pradesh State Tennis Tournament. On Sunday, the state’s Om Yadav, Sanidhya Dwivedi, Hanu Verma, Varun Singh, Shobhit Tandon, Yash Verma, Abhishek Yadav and Vansh Yadav reached the quarter-finals of men’s singles.
In the match played on Sunday on the tennis court of Vijayant Khand Mini Stadium located in Gomti Nagar, Om Yadav defeated his rival Rahul Prajapati one-sidedly 6-0. Om did not give any chance to Rahul due to his excellent service, excellent backhand and accurate drop shots. Hanu Verma defeated Anuj Kumar 6-2 and Sanidhya Dwivedi defeated Shubhamjeet Lal 6-2. Varun Singh registered an easy 6-2 win over Pankaj Yadav. The match between Shobhit Tandon and Saurabh Singh was thrilling, in which Shobhit won 7-5 after a tough fight with the help of volley and sharp smash. In other matches, Yash Verma defeated Ansh Saxena 6-0, Vansh Yadav defeated Anuruddh Kumar 6-1 and Abhishek Yadav defeated Rajkumar 6-1 to secure a place in the last eight.
Exciting matches were also seen in the veteran category. In the men’s singles semi-finals in the over 30 years age group, Nirbhay Singh entered the final by defeating Shobhit Tandon 6-3. In the second semi-final, Rajkumar Yadav defeated Deepak Yadav 6-3 and made it to the title match. In the men’s singles above 40 years age group, there will be a title match between Ankur Kapoor and Sunil Kumar. In the semi-finals, Ankur Kapoor defeated Hariom Singh 6-1, while Sunil Kumar defeated Ashwani Kumar 6-0 to enter the finals. In the first semi-final of men’s singles over 50 years age group, Alok Bhatnagar defeated Kuldeep Singh 6-1 to reach the final. In the second semi-final, Manish Mehrotra defeated Manoj Madan 6-3 and moved towards the title match.
