Yami Gautam and filmmaker Aditya Dhar have quietly become one of Bollywood’s most admired power couples grounded private and focused on their craft. While Aditya’s latest film Dhurandhar is creating waves at the box office Yami has been winning hearts for very different reasons. The actress who delivered a powerful performance in Haq earlier this year has opened up about why she chose not to be a part of her husband’s most ambitious project yet.
Why Yami didn’t star in Dhurandhar
In a recent interaction Yami revealed that when Aditya first narrated the script of Dhurandhar she was deeply moved by the story. In fact she admitted that she wished she could play one of the characters herself. However she also felt that the role demanded a male actor and she respected that creative choice.
She made it clear that their professional relationship has always had clear boundaries. “We don’t mix work with personal life” Yami shared earlier. “If he feels someone else suits a role better he goes with that decision. I completely respect it.”
According to her creative honesty matters more than comfort and that clarity has helped both of them grow individually.
A film that’s breaking records
Directed by Aditya Dhar Dhurandhar has turned out to be one of the biggest box office successes of the year. Starring Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna the film has not only impressed audiences but has also crossed major box office milestones even overtaking big releases like Pathaan and Animal.
The film’s success has brought renewed attention to Aditya’s storytelling skills especially after the massive impact of Uri: The Surgical Strike. For Yami seeing her husband’s vision translate into such a grand response has been deeply fulfilling.
Life after marriage and motherhood
Yami also spoke candidly about how her life has changed after marriage and becoming a mother. She welcomed her son Vedavid in May 2024 and described motherhood as a deeply emotional and transformative experience.
She believes the industry’s mindset is slowly changing. “Earlier it was assumed that an actress’s career slows down after marriage or motherhood. That’s not true anymore” she said adding that women today are redefining success on their own terms.
A relationship built on respect
Yami and Aditya first met on the sets of Uri: The Surgical Strike and tied the knot in 2021 in an intimate ceremony. Since then they have consciously kept their personal and professional lives separate supporting each other without overlap or pressure.
While Yami may not be part of Dhurandhar her support for the film and for her husband remains unwavering. And as both continue to shine in their respective journeys they stand as a reminder that sometimes the strongest partnerships thrive not on screen but behind it.
