Gurugram School Faces Affiliation Suspension

Gurugram: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken decisive action against GD Goenka High School in Sohna, Gurugram, by suspending its affiliation for the academic year 2026-27 due to serious violations of regulations. This measure was primarily prompted by concerns regarding student safety and non-compliance with campus regulations.

Concerns Over Student Safety

During an inspection conducted by CBSE, it was discovered that GD Goenka High School was sharing its premises and building with two other educational institutions. Alarmingly, there was no clear physical separation or solid boundary wall between these institutions. The board deemed this situation extremely concerning for the safety of the students.

Furthermore, the investigation revealed that multiple institutions were operating on different floors of the same building. Additionally, an academic program of a university was also being conducted on the upper floors of the same structure. According to CBSE, such arrangements could increase the risk of external contact for the school’s students, posing a potential threat to their safety.

CBSE's Stance

CBSE has made it clear that there will be no compromise on student safety. The board believes that shared premises without proper boundary walls and separate entrances expose students to risks such as bullying, harassment, and unwanted contact. It is mandatory for every school to ensure that its campus is entirely secure and free from external access.

Strict Warning Issued

The board also noted that the school management was not in a position to relocate other institutions to separate campuses within a short timeframe. However, CBSE acknowledged that the school had attempted to address the objections raised during the inspection. In this context, CBSE has issued a stern warning to all schools that violations related to infrastructure and student safety will not be tolerated. The board has emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for such issues in the future.

Relief for Students

Considering the future of the students, CBSE has provided some relief. During the suspension period, the school will not be able to admit new students in grades 9 and 11, but existing students from grades 9 to 12 will be allowed to continue their studies at the same institution.

Mandatory Construction of Boundary Wall

CBSE has issued several essential directives to the school. The campus must be completely separated from other institutions. Facilities such as buildings and playgrounds will only be accessible to GD Goenka High School students. Additionally, it is mandatory to create separate entrance and exit points away from the main road and to construct a six-foot-high solid boundary wall around the entire campus.

Establishment of Composite Science Lab

Moreover, the school is required to establish a composite science lab in accordance with CBSE standards and maintain all necessary records as per affiliation bylaws, SOPs, and CBSE guidelines. The board has clearly stated that no resources or staff from the school should be shared with any other institution.
