Director Sriram Raghavan known for his dark thrillers and gripping spy stories is now venturing into uncharted territory with his upcoming film Ikkis. While his work has often explored suspense crime and espionage Sriram’s next project takes him into the war epic genre signaling a shift in his filmmaking approach. Despite the booming popularity of high-octane spy films like Dhurandhar the director makes it clear that such films do not align with his creative style.
Sriram Raghavan on Dhurandhar
In a recent interview Sriram was asked to compare the Ranveer Singh starrer Dhurandhar with his own spy thriller Agent Vinod starring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan. While acknowledging its massive success he stated “It is a well-made film with terrific performances but it is not our kind of film. We must understand that we are living in different times. Dhurandhar is one movie. It is doing spectacularly well and it should. But this is not the only format. If I start following it it will be the silliest thing to do.”
He also praised director Aditya Dhar saying “He (Aditya) has a different kind of sensibility and craft and I love watching his films but it is not something I would make.” His remarks underline the idea that filmmakers have distinct approaches and sensibilities even in the same genre and success for one does not necessarily mean it fits another’s vision.
