New Year 2026: The year 2026 is beginning with a very auspicious and spiritual coincidence. According to the Panchang, not only the new year is starting on January 1, 2026, but the Mahayoga of Guru Pradosh Vrat is also being formed on this day. This day is considered very fruitful to get the blessings of Mahadev. According to religious beliefs, worshiping Lord Shiva on the day of Pradosh Vrat provides relief from all troubles. Since this fast is falling on Thursday, it will be called 'Guru Pradosh', which is special for happiness, good fortune and attainment of knowledge.
According to Hindu calendar, Trayodashi date of Shukla Paksha of Paush month is falling on 1 January 2026.
According to the scriptures, doing certain tasks on the day of Pradosh Vrat is considered prohibited. If you make these mistakes on this day, you will not get the full results of the fast:
Avoid Tamasic Food: People often consume meat and alcohol during New Year celebrations. But since it is Pradosh fast on this day, do not consume garlic, onion, meat or alcohol even by mistake.
Discord and anger: Mahadev loves peace. Do not quarrel at home on this day nor abuse anyone. Disrespecting elders can lead to Guru Dosh.
Don't sleep late: Don't spend the New Year morning sleeping late. Wake up before sunrise, take bath and meditate on Lord Shiva.
Things prohibited in puja: Never use Ketaki flowers, vermilion or basil leaves in the worship of Lord Shiva. Mahadev may get angry due to this.
Avoiding black clothes: One should avoid wearing black colored clothes during auspicious work and worship. It is auspicious to wear yellow or white clothes on this day.
Worship during Pradosh period: Do worship Lord Shiva in the evening. At this time Mahadev is in a happy mood.
Panchamrit Abhishek: Offer milk, curd, ghee, honey and Ganga water on Shivalinga.
Donation of yellow items: Since it is Thursday, donating gram pulses or yellow fruits relieves financial difficulties.
