Piyush Goyal: As political preparations heat up for the 2026 Assembly elections, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, the BJP’s election in-charge for Tamil Nadu, is scheduled to go to the state on January 4 for the second round of pivotal alliance talks with the AIADMK leadership.

Goyal had already met with leaders of the AIADMK on December 23 to have preliminary discussions on alliance strategy and seat-sharing. According to sources, the AIADMK suggested that the BJP may be given around 23 Assembly seats during those discussions, but no deal was finalized at that point.

In terms of seat-sharing talks, the visit on January 4 is anticipated to be crucial. During his stay in Tamil Nadu on January 4 and 5, Goyal will consult in-depth with coalition partners and top BJP officials.

Finalizing the seat-sharing formula, coordinating campaign tactics, and establishing the larger framework of the NDA alliance in the state are anticipated to be the main goals of the second round of negotiations.

During this visit, Piyush Goyal and Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), the general secretary of the AIADMK, are expected to have a crucial meeting. According to political watchers, this exchange may be crucial in determining how the BJP-AIADMK coalition develops going forward and resolving disagreements before the 2026 Assembly elections.

Goyal is anticipated to speak with leaders of possible coalition partners including the PMK and the DMDK in addition to the AIADMK leadership. The BJP’s larger attempt to unite the NDA in Tamil Nadu is said to include these gatherings.

Additionally, according to sources, Goyal is expected to meet with S. Gurumurthy, a prominent pundit and editor of ‘Thuglak’ magazine, during his visit. This highlights the significance of strategic and ideological discussions before to the election contest.

Political circles are keeping a careful eye on the conclusion of the January 4 discussions, which are anticipated to set the tone for future negotiations. This is because the outcome might significantly influence the coalition architecture for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2026.
