How to share your real-time location with others in Google Maps

You can choose who can find your location and how long you share it in Google Maps. Location Sharing works even when Timeline is turned off. People you share your location with in Google Maps can always find your:

  • Name and photo.
  • Device’s recent location even when Google apps aren’t being used.
  • Device’s battery power and if it’s charging.
  • Arrival and departure time if they add a Location Sharing notification.
  • They can also find other info depending on how you’re sharing.

How to find someone's location in Google Maps
You can find someone on your map when they share their location with you.

  • On your computer, open Google Maps Maps.
  • Click Menu Menu and then Location sharing.
  • Choose the person you want to find on your map.
  • Hide someone's location in Google Maps
If you don’t want someone’s real-time location on your map, you can hide it.

  • On your computer, open Google MapsMaps.
  • Click Menu Menu and then Location sharing.
  • Choose the person you want to temporarily hide.
  • Click Hide on map.
Show someone’s location in Google Maps
You can turn someone’s location that you’ve hidden back on at any time.

  • On your computer, open Google MapsMaps.
  • Click Menu Menu and then Location sharing.
  • Hover over the hide icon next to someone.
  • Click Show on map.
  • Stop sharing your location in Google Maps
  • On your computer, open your Location Sharing settings.
  • Next to the person with whom you want to stop sharing, click Stop.
