Three pedestrians have been hit by a car in Nottinghamshire after the driver suffered a medical emergency. Emergency services were called to the scene in Bulwell at lunchtime on New Year's Eve and swiftly closed the road. A damaged car could be seen surrounded by a police cordon outside a Home Bargains shop on Main Street.

East Midlands Ambulance Service said it sent three abulances to the incident and three people were taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. There have not been updates on the conditions of the pedestrians or driver. The road is still closed and not expected to reopen for a while as police continue their investigation.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: "We are currently in attendance at a road traffic collision involving a car and three pedestrians in Main Street, Bulwell.

"At the moment, we believe the driver has suffered a medical episode at the wheel. The road is expected to be closed for some time while investigations take place. People are being advised to find alternative routes and avoid the area."

Traffic has been building along roads surrounding the crash and further in Bulwell

Main Street is closed in both directions from Ravensworth Road to Jennison Street, which is also now facing congestion. Cars are also backing up to Hucknall Lane, further into town.

A local resident in his 70s said there were over a dozen people watching the aftermath of the incident.

He told Nottinghamshire Live: "It's been like this for a few hours now - there were about 15 of us watching at one point. I need to get to GB Home Bargain, but if people are hurt, it's obviously important they keep it closed."
