In private hospitals, the cost for kidney transplant was between 10 to 15 lakh rupees. But the patient’s father works as a cleaner under the BVG group and gets a monthly salary of only Rs 13,000. So it becomes impossible for the family to spend such a huge amount. Kidney transplant surgeries are done at Sassoon Hospital under Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana at a very nominal cost. Some medicines, injections, surgical materials and tests outside the scheme are raised with the help of charitable organizations.
