The new year has begun with a sharp cost increase for businesses that depend on LPG, as oil marketing companies have raised the price of commercial LPG cylinders from January 1, 2026. The price of the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has gone up by ₹111 across major cities, delivering a clear setback to hotels, restaurants, eateries and other commercial establishments. At the same time, there is relief for households, as the prices of domestic LPG cylinders have been kept unchanged.

As per the monthly price revision carried out by oil companies, the hike applies only to commercial LPG cylinders, while domestic consumers continue to pay the same rates as before.

New Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices Across Cities

According to the latest update from Indian Oil, the price of the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has increased by around ₹111 nationwide. After the revision, the new prices in major cities are as follows:

  • Delhi: ₹1,691.50

  • Kolkata: ₹1,795

  • Mumbai: ₹1,642.50

  • Chennai: ₹1,849.50

This rise is expected to directly impact businesses such as hotels, dhabas, catering units, bakeries and small food vendors. Since many of these establishments rely heavily on commercial LPG for daily operations, the higher input cost may eventually reflect in food prices and service charges.

Domestic LPG Prices Remain Stable

In contrast to the hike in commercial LPG, domestic consumers have been spared from any increase. The price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged, offering much-needed relief to households at the beginning of the year.

Here are the current domestic LPG prices in key cities:

  • Delhi: ₹853

  • Mumbai: ₹852.50

  • Lucknow: ₹890.50

  • Patna: ₹942.50

  • Kolkata: ₹879

  • Chennai: ₹868

Prices in remote and hilly areas have also remained steady. For example, the domestic LPG cylinder continues to cost around ₹985.50 in Kargil and ₹969 in Pulwama. It is worth noting that LPG prices can vary slightly depending on the local distributor, so minor differences may be seen within the same region.

Why Commercial LPG Prices Were Increased

Oil marketing companies revise LPG prices on the first day of every month, taking into account trends in the international market, crude oil prices and other cost factors. The January hike suggests increased cost pressures on commercial LPG supplies, which are not subsidized like domestic cylinders.

Commercial LPG users do not receive government support, making them more vulnerable to price fluctuations. As a result, even moderate hikes can have a noticeable impact on business expenses.

A Look Back at Commercial LPG Prices in 2025

Interestingly, the previous year had largely been favorable for commercial LPG users. Throughout 2025, commercial cylinder prices witnessed multiple reductions. In Delhi, prices dropped from ₹1,818.50 at the beginning of the year to ₹1,580.50 by the end, resulting in a total decline of around ₹238.

During 2025, prices were cut nearly 10 times, with some of the biggest reductions seen in July (₹58.50), September (₹51.50) and April (over ₹41). These repeated cuts had provided significant relief to businesses recovering from rising operational costs.

The January 2026 hike, therefore, marks a reversal after months of declining prices.

What Lies Ahead for LPG Prices?

Looking forward, the movement of LPG prices will largely depend on global crude oil trends and market stability. Oil companies will continue their monthly reviews, adjusting prices based on international benchmarks.

While commercial users are currently facing higher costs, there is hope that prices may stabilize or ease again if global energy markets remain calm in the coming months. For domestic consumers, the unchanged prices signal the government’s intent to shield households from immediate inflationary pressure.

Bottom Line

From January 1, 2026, commercial LPG cylinders have become ₹111 more expensive, impacting businesses across sectors. However, domestic LPG cylinder prices have been kept unchanged, offering relief to households. As oil companies continue monthly price revisions, both commercial users and consumers will be closely watching global market trends to see how LPG prices move in the months ahead.
