New Delhi: Despite the political tension between India and Bangladesh, fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman still has a chance of playing in IPL 2026. Mustafizur became the only Bangladeshi player to be bought by the KKR franchise for Rs 9.20 crore in the mini auction held in Dubai recently.

Criticism of KKR and BCCI

Due to increasing political instability in Bangladesh, KKR and BCCI are facing criticism on social media. Some political leaders are also appealing to expel Mustafizur Rahman from the league.

BCCI clarified its stand

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a clear stand on these matters, and has adopted a ‘wait and watch’ policy for the time being. BCCI says that it will not ban any player without instructions from the government. According to a senior official, the situation remains sensitive.

‘Bangladesh is not an enemy country’

BCCI has said that they are in constant touch with the government and there is no reason to ban Bangladeshi players. Mustafizur will play IPL because Bangladesh is not an enemy country. Currently BCCI is discussing the visa issues of Bangladeshi players with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for the T20 World Cup 2026. There is less possibility of any major problem arising in this.

Will Mustafizur be able to play the entire season of IPL?

Mustafizur’s availability in the IPL also depends on some other circumstances. Bangladesh team has to play a series against New Zealand in April. If Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) does not give him NOC, he may remain out of some matches.

‘The possibility of playing in IPL remains intact’

BCCI says that application for Mustafizur’s visa will be made in view of the T-20 World Cup, which can also be extended for the IPL. Currently, the Board is waiting for further orders from the Government of India. Despite the political tension, the possibility of Mustafizur Rahman playing in the IPL remains, but his full availability will depend on certain rules and administrative approvals.
