How to stay safe while using UPI Apps: Making UPI payments is very easy, but people are often unaware of the fraud that can occur through it. Users of Paytm, PhonePe, and Google Pay should keep several things in mind. One mistake can empty your bank account. Every day, thousands of people fall victim to scams through fake links, incorrect QR codes, or phone calls. Therefore, people should be mindful of several things to protect themselves from fraud.

Never share your UPI PIN.
You should never share your UPI PIN with anyone. Banks or any government body will never ask you for your UPI PIN. Also, remember that you don't need a PIN to receive money. Scammers ask for your UPI PIN through calls or messages to commit fraud, and sharing your PIN is your biggest mistake. Never share your UPI PIN with anyone.

Do not click on unknown links received in the name of refunds
Do not click on any unknown links received for refunds or rewards. Avoid clicking on links received via WhatsApp or SMS. These are phishing links, and clicking on them gives scammers access to your device, allowing them to use your UPI app.

Check the QR code before scanning.
Sometimes, in a hurry, we scan QR codes without checking them properly. When scanning a QR code at a shop, match the amount and the receiver's name. Fake QR codes can send your money to the wrong account.

Set transaction limits
You can set a daily transaction limit in your UPI app. You can set a lower daily limit in the app's settings. This way, even if your account or device falls into the wrong hands, they won't be able to transfer large sums of money.

Do not trust calls from unknown numbers.
Calls about digital arrests, KYC updates, or lottery winnings are fake. Scammers may ask for your OTP or PIN under these pretexts. Therefore, be cautious of such calls.

Download UPI apps from official stores.
Always download UPI apps from official app stores only. Android users are advised to download apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and BHIM only from the Google Play Store, and Apple users from the Apple App Store.
