New York: MTV (Music Television), the iconic destination for music lovers that shaped global pop culture, has officially shut down its 24-hour continuous broadcast service. On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the legendary channel aired its final broadcast, marking the end of an era.

An Emotional Farewell
Before going off the air, the channel released a special, heart-touching final music video for its fans. Through this, it expressed gratitude to the audience that supported it for over four decades.

Where has it shut down?
Owned by Paramount Media Networks, the organization has closed several of its major channels globally:
United Kingdom (UK): Almost all MTV music channels have ceased operations.
Other Countries: Channels including MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live have stopped broadcasting in Australia, Poland, France, and Brazil.

Available Only in the US
According to current reports, only MTV Classic and the main MTV channel in the United States will continue to broadcast after the New Year. Music may no longer hold center stage on cable television, but it continues to thrive within smaller digital niches.

A Milestone in Music History
Launched in the US in 1981, MTV became a household name globally, featuring not just music but also reality shows, youth culture, and unique entertainment programming. Analysts suggest this decision was driven by the rise of digital platforms and changing audience tastes.
