How Often Should a Baby Bathe: In the winter season, cold winds and dry weather quickly affect children's skin and health. During this time, children's immunity can weaken, and their skin tends to become dry. Therefore, parents need to be extra careful in caring for their children. Paying attention to bathing habits, water temperature, and the right time for bathing is crucial.
Sometimes, even a small mistake made with the intention of good hygiene can lead to colds, coughs, or skin problems in children. Both Ayurveda and modern science advise moderation when it comes to bathing children in winter, to maintain their skin's moisture and body heat.
Is it necessary to bathe a baby every day?
In winter, it's not necessary to bathe children every day. Bathing every day can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dry skin and hair. Bathing two to three times a week is considered sufficient during the cold season.
What does Ayurveda say?
According to Ayurveda, the Vata dosha increases in winter. Frequent bathing can further increase Vata, leading to dry skin and problems like colds and coughs.
Proper hair care
Young children's scalps are very sensitive. Generally, washing their hair once or twice a week is sufficient. If the hair is very oily, it can be washed two or three times, while dry or curly hair is best washed once every seven to ten days. Applying a light oil after washing the hair is beneficial.
Precautions to take while bathing
Always use lukewarm water. It is safest to bathe the child after the sun is up in the morning or in the afternoon. Keep the room closed and immediately dry the child with a towel after bathing, then dress them in warm clothes and socks to maintain body heat.
