Shreyas Iyer Comeback: There is a condition in front of Shreyas Iyer for selection in the ODI series against New Zealand, if he is not able to fulfill it, he will not get a place in Team India. According to media reports Shreyas Iyer will have to pass two match simulation sessions to get 'return to play' approval from BCCI's Center of Excellence. If reports are to be believed, Shreyas has passed four sessions of batting and fielding but considering his current fitness, two more match-simulation sessions will be conducted on January 2 and 5.
Shreyas Iyer His return was supposed to be earlier but the medical team working on his recovery found that the player's muscle mass has reduced and hence he needs more tests. He was to play two matches for Mumbai in Vijay Hazare Trophy but it could not happen. Now BCCI's selection committee will select Team India on January 3, and finding Iyer's place in it is looking a bit difficult. It is also possible that BCCI may take a decision after watching their first match simulation session.
Shreyas Iyer was injured during the ODI series in Australia. He had dived to catch the catch, after which he got injured in his spleen and also started bleeding internally. Due to this, he has been out of the field for two months and his weight has reduced by 6 kg. Therefore, he needs time to regain his weight and come back to the level before the stomach injury.
If Shreyas Iyer is selected for the ODI series against New Zealand, then Ruturaj Gaikwad may suffer a loss. In Iyer's absence, Gaikwad batted at number four in the South Africa ODI series, where he also scored a century. If Iyer returns, Gaikwad may be released from the team. However, there are reports that if Iyer is not selected, then Karnataka batsman Devdutt Padikkal, who has scored three centuries in four matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, can come into the team.
