India ODI Squad Announcement: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the 15-member Indian team for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. For this first ODI series of the year 2026, the selectors have expressed confidence in the mix of experienced and young players. Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant have returned to the team. But Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have been given rest.

Shubman Gill becomes captain, Rohit-Virat return

The command of the Indian team has once again been handed over to captain Shubman Gill. Gill, who was not part of the ODI series against South Africa, is now making a comeback as captain. This is the first time that Gill will lead the Indian team on home ground in ODI. At the same time, the team’s most experienced players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have also returned to the ODI team, due to which the Indian batting order looks very strong. In the last few matches, both the legends have been seen in excellent form.

Iyer’s comeback

Shreyas Iyer has been made the vice-captain of the team. Iyer is now returning to the team after a long time. He suffered a serious injury during the Australia tour last year. However, his availability will be subject to fitness clearance. Iyer will enter the field only after clearance from the Center of Excellence. Apart from this, Rishabh Pant’s return to the ODI team remains a topic of discussion. Pant has been a part of very few ODI matches in recent times. In such a situation, the return of him and Mohammad Siraj is indicating the changing attitude of the selection committee.

Bumrah and Pandya rest

Before the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, the team management, keeping in mind the workload of the senior players, has given rest to the team’s leading fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya from this series. At the same time, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devdutt Padikkal, who performed brilliantly in the recent domestic matches, have also not got a place in the team this time.
