Mangaluru: Karnataka Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader on Saturday said there was no urgency for him to become the Chief Minister and that such thoughts could be considered only after a long political journey.

Speaking at a press conference in Mangaluru on Saturday (January 3), Khader was responding to a question from reporters on whether he harboured ambitions to become the Chief Minister. “There is no urgency to become CM. Let us see after 20 years, and after voters have elected me four times,” he remarked.

Commenting on the Ballari incident, Khader said it was inappropriate for legislators to indulge in confrontations in a dramatic or cinematic manner. “Because of the behaviour of a few public representatives, people tend to view others in the same light,” he said.

On the issue of traditional cockfighting, Khader said there was a need to frame appropriate rules to resolve the problem. “I have also offered suggestions, and I am hopeful that the issue will be resolved,” he added.
