New Delhi: Elon Musk’s social media company The company has clarified that the accounts of those posting illegal, obscene or objectionable content on the platform will be permanently banned. Not only this, the same action will also be applicable on those creating such content through AI tool Grok.

This decision of X has come after a strong warning from the Government of India. The government had instructed the company to remove illegal and objectionable content, after which X has announced to make its policy more strict.

According to media reports, X’s Global Government Affairs account has said that any kind of illegal content will not be accepted on the platform. This specifically includes content to child sexual exploitation. In such cases, not only will the content be removed immediately, but the concerned accounts will also be suspended forever. X will also cooperate with local governments and law enforcement agencies if needed.

On January 2, India’s Ministry of Electronics and IT had directed X to immediately remove all obscene, objectionable and illegal content. In particular, it was asked to keep a strict vigil on the content created with Grok AI. The ministry had also given instructions to submit the action taken report within 72 hours from June and warned that legal action could be taken if the rules are not followed.

Political pressure increased on obscene content

The government had received complaints that fake and obscene pictures of women were being shared on X. On this issue, Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi had written a letter to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav seeking intervention. It was said in the order that content insulting women is being created using Grok AI, which is a direct violation of the law. After this, pressure on X increased and the company announced strict action.
