Rain: Due to the current low-pressure systems over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rainfall over the next five days in a number of areas in Tamil Nadu.
According to the agency, although interior areas may continue to have mostly dry conditions, these weather systems are predicted to bring about sporadic rainfall, especially in the coastal strip.
The most recent advisory from the IMD states that moderate rain is expected in Puducherry and coastal Tamil Nadu on Monday and Tuesday. A low-pressure system over the nearby sea areas is causing the rainfall activity by attracting moisture to the coast of Tamil Nadu. Conversely, while colder weather is possible, interior areas are predicted to be generally dry.
According to the projection, there may be moderate rainfall in several areas of Tamil Nadu on January 7. Rainfall activity is predicted to spread to the interior and coastal areas on January 8, bringing sporadic, moderate showers across the state.
Additionally, moderate rain is expected across both northern and southern Tamil Nadu on January 10, according to the IMD, suggesting a broader distribution of rainfall as the weather system changes. The meteorological service has warned that temperatures would likely drop across the state in addition to the rains.
In several areas of Tamil Nadu, minimum temperatures are predicted to drop by two to three degrees Celsius during the course of the next two days. Inland and low-lying regions may experience a perceptible cold in the early morning hours as a result of this dip.
The IMD predicts mostly overcast sky for Chennai and the surrounding regions. Early in the morning, there is a chance of light mist or fog, which might make it harder to see in certain places.
The agency said that colder daytime temperatures are anticipated as a result of the sun’s predicted continued subdued appearance and low intensity.
The IMD has cautioned locals, particularly those in low-lying and coastal areas, to be vigilant to weather updates since sporadic precipitation, fog, and lower temperatures may have an impact on everyday activities and travel.
According to the agency, it is keeping a careful eye on the changing weather systems and will issue more warnings if needed.
