Sachin’s record of most centuries in danger?

Joe Root has proved his batting prowess in red ball cricket since the year 2021. Since then, a total of 24 centuries have come from his bat. Before this, he had only 17 centuries to his name in nine years. Currently, in the first innings of the fifth match of the Ashes series being played in Sydney, Root played a brilliant inning of 160 runs against Australia. This is the 41st Test century of his Test career. With this, he has reached joint third place with former Australia captain Ricky Ponting in terms of scoring most centuries in Tests. Ahead of these two are great batsman Sachin Tendulkar and legendary South African batsman Jacques Kallis. Sachin has the maximum number of 51 Test centuries and Kallis has the maximum number of 45 Test centuries. That means Root will have to score 11 more Test centuries to come out on top.

Root can become the batsman who scores the most test runs

Cricket experts believe that if Root’s excellent form continues like this, he will break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most Test runs in the future. Root has scored 13937 runs in 297 test innings. Whereas Sachin had scored 15921 runs in 329 innings. That means, to hold the record of scoring most Test runs, Root will still have to score 1985 runs. Looking at the current form of the English batsman, this record can be expected to be broken soon.
