The central city of Da Nang received 345,000 foreign visitors during New Year, three times Hanoi’s arrival numbers and nearly five times Ho Chi Minh City’s.
Tourism revenues in Da Nang during the four-day holiday that ended on Sunday were estimated at VND2.4 trillion (US$91.4 million).
Occupancy rates at four- and five-star hotels were 90%.
Tourism insiders attributed the surge in arrivals to favorable weather and the various events hosted by the city.
On Jan. 1 city authorities held a welcome ceremony at Da Nang International Airport for eight international tourist groups arriving from Manila, Incheon, Busan, Bangkok, Taipei, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
Ninh Binh ranked second in the country with 178,000 foreign visitors, followed by Hanoi (110,000), Ho Chi Minh City (78,000), Quang Ninh (70,500), Khanh Hoa (48,000), and Phu Quoc (30,000).
Vietnam has set a target of receiving 25 million foreign visitors this year, a 16% increase from last year’s record 21.5 million.
