After Bangladesh’s star fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from IPL 2026, Pakistan Super League (PSL) has given a big message by giving him a chance. This incident has become a topic of discussion in the cricket world during the increasing tension between India and Bangladesh. Mustafizur was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a huge amount, but now he will be seen in the next season of PSL.

Reason for being out of IPL

In early January 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directed KKR to release Mustafizur Rahman from the team. This decision was taken due to recent developments, including reports of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. KKR bought Mustafizur in the mega auction for Rs 9.20 crore, which was a record amount for a Bangladeshi player. But now this contract has been canceled and Mustafizur will not get any compensation.

This decision seems to have been taken due to political pressure, as some Indian leaders and organizations had objected to the participation of the Bangladeshi player. BCCI did not give a clear reason, but said that it was necessary in view of the recent circumstances.

New opportunity in PSL

Right after being out of IPL, Pakistan Cricket Board showed momentum. It was announced from the official social media handle of PSL that Mustafizur Rahman will be included in the PSL 2026 draft. This will be his return to PSL after eight years. Let us tell you that Mustafizur had earlier been a part of Lahore Qalandars in the 2017-18 season.

The next season of PSL will be held in March-April 2026, which can run simultaneously with IPL. Mustafizur’s slow balls and variations can prove useful for PSL teams. Although, the salary in PSL will be much less as compared to IPL, but this is a new opportunity for his career. Many PSL franchises are interested to have him in their team.

Bangladesh’s resentment

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the government were very angry with Mustafizur’s exclusion. The Bangladesh government completely banned the telecast of IPL 2026 in its country. The Information Ministry said that BCCI’s decision was without reason and has hurt people.

Apart from this, BCB requested ICC to shift Bangladesh’s matches of T20 World Cup 2026 from India to Sri Lanka. This demand was made citing security concerns. The World Cup will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, but Bangladesh is refusing to play in India.
