The rise of the creator economy

The creator economy in India is no longer just a hobby, but has become a huge industry. Many creators who have 1 lakh followers can easily earn up to ₹2-2.5 lakh per month. However, the journey has not been easy, as many are just dreaming of going viral, while some have successfully run it from a business perspective.

Focus on results more than number of followers

During 2025, the industry has made it clear that earning money just by counting the number of followers is not possible. Now brands are emphasizing on output and special category deals. Therefore, the top 5% creators have captured a significant share of the broader market of ₹4,500 crore.

truth of rate card

Mega creators (1 million+ followers) charge ₹3.5 lakh to ₹9 lakh for a post. Creators with 5 to 10 lakh followers charge ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh, while for creators with 2 to 5 lakh followers, the amount ranges between ₹1.2 lakh to ₹2 lakh. Small creators usually get ₹20,000 to ₹60,000. These figures reflect “peak pricing,” which does not represent sustainable income.

Unstable Income and Challenges for Creators

An account called “August the Ginger Cat” in Gurugram sometimes earns ₹1.4 lakh a month, and sometimes zero. At the same time, Delhi-based creator Agau Sitalho prepared the content by spending ₹ 3 lakh from his own pocket. Many creators left traditional jobs and entered this field, but unstable income forced them to return to the office.

youtube vs film industry

Filmmaker Farah Khan has earned more revenue through YouTube than she did from her films. His monthly earnings from a channel with 2.5 million subscribers are between ₹10 to ₹20 lakh. Apart from this, his kitchen helper Dilip is also receiving brand gifts and recognition, presenting a new face of social mobility.

Possibility of change in 2026

Agencies are now moving away from one-time campaigns to a long-term retainer model. IPLIX Media has registered a growth of 27% and is now continuously working with brands like JBL, Samsung. In 2026, creators’ earnings will no longer depend solely on reach, but also on “community trust” and “conversions.”
