Health effects of lack of water in winter

During winter, people feel less thirsty, due to which they drink less water. In cold weather, sweating also occurs less, due to which the body does not realize the need of water. However, this habit can be harmful to health. Lack of water can lead to dehydration, which has a negative impact on the kidneys and urinary system. This increases the risk of kidney stones and urinary tract infections (UTIs). Let us know why drinking less water in winter causes these problems and what are its symptoms.

Drinking less water increases the risk of kidney stones and UTIs.

Dr. L.H. of Lady Hardinge Hospital. According to Ghotekar, when the body does not get sufficient amount of water, urine becomes thick. The minerals present in thick urine are not able to come out easily, which increases the chances of kidney stone formation. Additionally, less urination causes bacteria to accumulate in the urinary tract, increasing the risk of UTIs. Due to cold in winter, people go to toilet less, due to which this problem increases further. Prolonged dehydration puts more pressure on the kidneys, which causes toxins to accumulate in the body and also increases the risk of infection.

Symptoms of Kidney Stones and UTIs

Symptoms of kidney stones may include severe pain in the lower back or abdomen, a burning sensation when urinating, blood in the urine, and nausea or vomiting. In case of UTIs, frequent urination, burning sensation while urinating, smelly or cloudy urine, and fever may occur.
