Pregnancy time is the most important period of any woman’s life. During this period, the body has to fulfill not only the needs of the mother but also of the baby in the womb. In such a situation, the role of blood i.e. hemoglobin increases even more, because it works to transport oxygen and nutrition from mother to child.
When the amount of hemoglobin in a pregnant woman’s body starts decreasing, it can affect not only her health but also the development of the child. Initially this problem appears in the form of mild fatigue, breathlessness or dizziness, but if not taken care of in time, it can cause weakness, risk of infection and complications to delivery. This is why hemoglobin deficiency during pregnancy should not be taken lightly and it is very important to know its remedies at the right time.
It is very important to make iron-rich food a part of your daily diet during pregnancy. Green leafy vegetables like spinach, fenugreek and mustard are good sources of iron and folate, which strengthen the blood formation process. Beetroot is also considered very beneficial during this period, because along with iron, it contains elements which help in the formation of red blood cells. Fruits like pomegranate, apple and amla also reduce weakness.
Dry fruits also play an important role in increasing hemoglobin. The iron and natural sugar present in dates, raisins and figs help in providing energy to the body as well as in overcoming the anemia. By soaking them overnight and eating them in the morning, their nutrients are easily digested and the body gets better benefits. Consumption of black sesame and jaggery is also considered useful for pregnant women, because along with supplying iron, it also removes fatigue and weakness.
Vitamin C is very important for proper absorption of iron. Therefore, sour things like lemon, orange, seasonal fruits, or amla should be included with food. It provides plenty of iron to the body. It is important to stay away from tea and coffee, because the elements present in them reduce the effect of iron. If you have to drink tea, it is better to keep a gap of some time between food and iron medicine.
It is also very important to take iron and folic acid medicines given by the doctor regularly and correctly during pregnancy. Many times women leave the medicine due to stomach irritation or confusion, due to which hemoglobin can fall further. In such a situation, the problem can be reduced by changing the time of taking the medicine or taking it after food, but the medicine should not be stopped without consulting the doctor.
Apart from this, adequate sleep and mental peace also helps in maintaining better hemoglobin. Getting enough sleep gives the body time to repair itself and create new blood cells. Light walking, pranayam and deep breathing habits improve the oxygen level in the body, thereby reducing weakness and fatigue. Before trying any home remedy or changing your diet during pregnancy, definitely consult a doctor.
