The problem of headache becomes common during winter season. Many people suffer from frequent headaches due to cold air, sinus problems, lack of water in the body and aggravation of Vata-Kapha dosha. This pain caused by cold sometimes becomes so severe that everyday activities start getting affected. Some simple and safe home remedies have been suggested in Ayurveda for relief from such headaches, which can be adopted to get relief.
head massage with sesame oil
According to Ayurveda, sesame oil helps in balancing Vata dosha. Take lukewarm sesame oil and massage it on the head and neck for 5 to 10 minutes before sleeping at night. This provides relief from stiffness and headache caused by cold.
Taking steam is an effective solution
Taking steam is considered beneficial in headache caused due to sinus or blocked nose. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil or celery oil in hot water and steam for 5 to 7 minutes. This opens the nose and reduces heaviness in the head.
Use of Brahmi or coconut oil
Brahmi is considered a medicine that keeps the mind calm. Light massage with Brahmi oil or coconut oil can provide relief from headaches caused by stress, cold air and fatigue.
keep the body hydrated
Thirst is less in winter, but lack of water can also cause headache. Drink adequate amount of lukewarm water throughout the day. If you want, you can also take light tea of ginger or basil, which will keep the body warm and provide relief from pain.
protect head and ears from cold
Headache may increase due to cold air directly hitting the head and ears. While going out, cover your head and ears with a woolen cap, scarf or scarf. This small remedy helps a lot in preventing pain.
