New Delhi: The iPhone camera has always been known for its excellent quality and reliable performance. Now a new investor note has further intensified the discussion that Apple is planning to take the biggest leap ever in mobile photography.
According to a report, Apple is working on an iPhone with 200 megapixel camera sensor. However, users may have to wait for a few years for this big upgrade, because in the report its possible launch year has been mentioned as 2028.
This is not the first time that talk of a 200MP camera in the iPhone has surfaced. Last year, famous tipster Digital Chat Station had claimed that Apple is internally testing a 200MP camera sensor for future iPhones. However, at that time there was no clear information regarding its launch timeline. Morgan Stanley’s latest note has now for the first time hinted at the possible timing of this technology, further strengthening the discussion that Apple is indeed working seriously in this direction.
Currently, the rear camera setup in all Apple iPhones is based on a 48MP sensor, which includes main, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses. Apple first started the journey from 12MP to 48MP with the main camera and later extended it to the rest of the lenses.
This change helped the company achieve more detail and better image quality through computational photography techniques like pixel binning. According to the new report, Apple may stick with the current megapixel count for the next few generations, which also includes the iPhone 18 lineup.
There is another interesting revelation in the report, which was first noticed by Apple Insider. Morgan Stanley says that Samsung can supply 200MP camera sensor for iPhones to be launched in 2028.
Although Apple and Samsung have been rivals in the smartphone market for a long time, the partnership between the two in terms of component supply is nothing new. Samsung has been providing many important parts for Apple in the past also. According to the report, these 200MP camera sensors can be manufactured in Samsung’s facility located in Austin, Texas.
If this report proves true, then the iPhone with 200MP camera could take Apple’s mobile photography to a whole new level. However, at present users will have to wait till 2028 for this big change.
