Rajkot: Big news is coming from Rajkot district of Gujarat, where sudden earthquake tremors on Thursday night left people in panic. At night, when people were resting in their homes, suddenly the earth started shaking. Tremors were felt the most especially in the areas of Upleta and Jetpur taluka. This commotion, which lasted for a few seconds, scared people so much that they immediately came out of their homes and tall buildings into safe open fields.
According to reports, this earthquake occurred at around 8.43 pm. As soon as the tremors were felt, there was chaos in the area. The intensity of this earthquake has been measured at 3.3 on the Richter scale. Although the magnitude of 3.3 is kept in the ‘mild category’, this sudden tremor in the silence of the night created an atmosphere of fear among the local residents.
According to the data released by the Department of Seismology (Seismology Centre), the epicenter of this earthquake was recorded about 30 kilometers away from Upleta in Rajkot. Due to the epicenter being at a low depth under the ground, its tremors were clearly felt in the surrounding talukas. Fortunately, the intensity of the earthquake was low, due to which the possibility of any major disaster was averted.
It is a matter of relief that till now no news of loss of life or property has been received from any part of the district. The administration and disaster management departments are on full alert mode and are closely monitoring the situation. After some time of the earthquake, the situation in the area is now said to be normal, but as a precaution, people are still a little cautious.
