Mumbai: A big question has been raised over the release of famous Tamil film industry actor Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Jana Nayakan’. The film was scheduled to release on January 9, 2026, but has been postponed indefinitely due to non-receipt of certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. This news is a big shock for the fans, because this film is considered to be Vijay’s last film. After this he will become fully active in politics.
‘Jana Nayakan’ is directed by H Vinoth. This is a political action thriller, in which Vijay is seen in a double role. The film’s lead actress is Pooja Hegde, while other important roles include stars like Sneha, Priyamani, Mamita Baiju, and Bobby Deol. The music of the film has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander and its trailer had excited the fans a lot. Its production cost is estimated to be around Rs 500 crore.
The reason for postponing the release is the delay caused by CBFC. A hearing has been held on this issue in Madras High Court and the court has ordered to announce its decision on January 9. Production company KVN Productions expressed regret and said that this decision has been taken out of compulsion. The new release date will be announced soon. Producers are estimated to have suffered a loss of around Rs 50 crore due to this delay, as a lot of revenue had been earned from advance booking.
However, the good news is that the refund process of tickets has started. All theaters in India and abroad have canceled the shows of January 9. Online booking platforms like BookMyShow and theater chains are automatically refunding. At many places, spectators with cash tickets can also withdraw their money by going to the counter. Lakhs of tickets were booked across the world, refund of which is underway. Even though fans are expressing their disappointment on social media, their support towards Vijay is unmatched. Vijay’s fan following is extremely strong, and his films always break records at the box office. Now everyone is eagerly waiting for the new release date.
