Radish Side Effects: Radish is considered a favorite, tasty and healthy vegetable in the cold season. There are many benefits from its consumption and it is eaten in different forms. Hot radish parathas are the favorite breakfast of many people in the morning. Many people prepare and eat vegetables, kebabs, pakodas, chutney or other dishes from it.
But do you know that this white root is not beneficial for everyone? Both Ayurveda and science believe that in certain physical conditions, consumption of radish can cause harm instead of benefit. Today we are telling you which people should avoid eating radish.
Thyroid, especially hypothyroid patients: Raw radish may contain goitrogen elements, which hinder the absorption of iodine. Such people should avoid raw radish. Ripe radish can be taken in limited quantity.
People with stomach problems, like gas, acidity or IBS: Radish increases vata. This may increase the problem of gas, stomach pain, burning sensation or diarrhea, especially by eating raw radish.
Excess bile or acid reflux: According to Ayurveda, radish can stimulate bile. This may increase heartburn and sour belching.
History of kidney stones: In some people, oxalates present in radish can increase the problem of stones. In such a situation, it is important to consult a doctor.
Gallbladder stones or gall bladder problems: Radish can affect bile secretion, which may increase pain or discomfort.
Low blood pressure, i.e. hypotension: Radish can reduce blood pressure slightly. Consuming too much may cause dizziness or weakness.
Allergies or Sensitivity: This problem occurs in very few people, but for some people eating radish may cause itching, swelling or stomach upset.
1- Instead of raw radish, it is better to eat cooked radish, like in vegetable or paratha.
2- Eat radish in limited quantity even in winter.
3- To avoid gas, cook radish with celery or asafoetida.
4- Avoid eating raw radish at night.
