Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to strengthen its roots in West Bengal. In the West Bengal elections held in the year 2021, BJP had tried its best to come to power, from 3 seats it got more than 70 seats but the party could not come to power. Mamata Banerjee was successful in attracting minority votes. Now once again she is holding rallies in minority dominated Malda, Murshidabad and Cooch Behar. There are more than 40 assemblies in these districts, which Mamata Banerjee is trying to control on the pretext of special intensive revision. It is a big challenge for BJP to unite Hindu voters in these districts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has prepared a strategy to deal with this challenge.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday cornered BJP over the special intensive revision of voter list in the state. He said that this is an attempt to harass the voters and capture West Bengal through deceit. Now Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised his MPs to avoid making strong statements on this issue and present it to the public as a normal administrative process.

What will BJP MPs say to the public on SIR?

PM Modi has given a clear message to the BJP MPs of West Bengal that instead of making statements, they should explain to the public that this is a normal Election Commission process. This is the process of correcting the voter list so that it can be ensured that only legitimate voters vote. The names of those who are ineligible should be removed. If someone asks the number of ineligible voters, no statement should be made on it. It is the job of the Election Commission to tell how many names were deleted and how many were added.

What is BJP’s strategy against Mamata Banerjee?

BJP is trying to consolidate Hindu votes. BJP is moving forward keeping the Matua community at the center. BJP leader and Bongaon MP Shantanu Thakur had recently said that after the SIR, arrests will be made and people will go directly to the detention camp. Responding to this, Mamta Banerjee had said that no detention camp will be built in Bengal. It is clear from the statements of some MPs that PM Modi has given a clear message that such statements should not be made, MPs should be clear about their policies on the ground.

Mamata Banerjee vs BJP war on SIR

Trinamool Congress is saying that SIR is actually a preparation to implement NRC. The names of real Bengali-Hindus and minorities will be deleted. The Election Commission is working on the instructions of BJP. BJP is saying that the state government is doing this drama to save the infiltrators. The party says that only the names of fake and dead voters are being removed.

What instructions have BJP MPs received?

On Wednesday, several MPs from Bengal met PM Narendra Modi. Malda North MP Khagen Murmu, who was attacked by the mob in October, was also present at the meeting. PM Modi sought feedback and suggestions from MPs regarding their work. He asked what the MPs were doing at the booth level.

MPs are instructed to make the public aware about the welfare schemes of the Centre. MPs should pay attention to the issues of local workers and look at the election preparations from their perspective. BJP MPs have also been instructed to inform the public about the schemes which have not received the approval of the state government. Attention should be given to the areas which are backward.

What strategy is BJP playing now?

Ahead of the 2026 assembly elections, BJP is launching a scathing attack on corruption and irregularities in welfare schemes. To consolidate Hindu votes, BJP is accusing TMC of illegal infiltrators and minority appeasement. BJP leaders are vocally talking about the interests of Matua community and Hindutva.

Women-centric campaigns are being run by strengthening booth committees at the grassroots level. On one hand, TMC is calling SIR a weapon to intimidate voters, while BJP is calling this policy of Mamata Banerjee as minority appeasement.

In response to Mamata Banerjee’s Durga Aangan project, BJP is giving Jai Maa Kali. This time BJP wants to get more than 150 seats. Efforts are being made to project Mamata Banerjee’s image as anti-development.
