For many people traveling on the road can be a fun experience, but for some it becomes a challenge. Feeling vomiting or nausea as soon as you sit in a car or any vehicle is a common problem. This is not only an inconvenience, but sometimes it can also be a sign of some health problem.

According to experts, the main reason for this happening is motion sickness. This is a common condition in which an illusion of balance is created between the body and the mind. When your eyes, ears, and body send different signals—like the eyes seeing a still environment, but the ears and body sensing motion—the brain gets confused. This results in problems like nausea, vomiting, dizziness or sweating.

Who are most affected?
Motion sickness can happen to people of any age, but it is slightly more likely to occur in children and pregnant women. Apart from this, people who have high mood swings or sensitivity of senses can also get this problem easily.

What are the symptoms?
Feeling slight dizziness, sweating, facial discoloration, and feeling of uneasiness in the stomach while sitting in a car are common symptoms of motion sickness. Some people experience only mild discomfort, while others may have severe vomiting or nausea.

Ways to prevent this:

Seat Selection: Sit in the front seat of the vehicle. Sitting forward gives correct signals of movement to the brain and reduces nausea.

Maintain a positive outlook: Look outside the moving vehicle. Motion sickness can increase due to mobile phone or reading book.

Eat light food: Do not eat heavy or spicy food before the journey. Take light and easily digestible food.

Aroma and Ginger: Consuming ginger or chewing ginger items may help reduce nausea.

Option of medicine: If the problem is serious then medicines for motion sickness can be taken with the advice of the doctor.

Experts also say that experiencing frequent vomiting or nausea over a long period of time can also be a sign of another health problem—such as a vestibular disorder or an inner ear problem. Therefore, if there is continuous vomiting during travel, it is beneficial to get checked by an ENT (Ear-Nose-Throat) or neurologist.
