Google UCP Protocol: The way we shop online is about to change completely. Google has launched a system that will allow users to buy products directly from Google Search. For this, the company has introduced a new Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP). This will bring everything from finding products to payment and delivery to one place. Major companies like Shopify, Walmart, Target, and Flipkart are also partnering with Google on this.
What is UCP, and why is it special?
Google's Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) is a new open system that makes online shopping completely easy. Through this, the entire process, from searching for a product and viewing its price to purchasing it and receiving post-purchase support, will be available on a single platform. It connects digital agents, retailers, and payment companies. Importantly, it also works with existing systems like Agent2Agent and Model Context Protocol. This means that the need to visit different apps or websites will be reduced.
Partnership with Shopify, Walmart, and Target
Google has not developed this UCP system alone, but in collaboration with major companies like Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target, and Walmart. In addition, more than 20 companies, including Visa, Mastercard, Flipkart, and Best Buy, have also supported it. Users will directly benefit from this as they will have the option to shop directly from trusted brands on Google. This will also reduce the fear of online fraud and make transactions more secure.
Direct shopping from Google Search
With the help of UCP, Google has added a new checkout feature to AI Mode in Search and the Gemini app. In the US, users will be able to click on products displayed on Google and pay directly using Google Pay. This will use the same card and address that is already saved in Google Wallet. PayPal support will also be added soon. This means the entire journey from search to delivery will be completed within Google. However, information on when this feature will be available in India is not yet available.
AI Salesman and Special Offers
Google is also introducing a new business agent that will act like a virtual salesman. This will start with companies like Lowe's, Reebok, Michaels, and Poshmark. A feature called "Direct Offers" is also being tested, which will show users special deals at the time of purchase. Brands like Petco, Samsonite, and e.l.f. Cosmetics are participating. The goal is to ensure that users who are in the mood to buy receive the right offers at the right time.
