Latur Municipal Election 2026: According to the Maharashtra Times, the Bharatiya Janata Party saw a significant internal uprising during the local general elections when a number of party members ran against official candidates. Some rebels refused to resign, raising disciplinary issues inside the organization even though the majority subsequently retracted their nominations. Strict measures were necessary to uphold party discipline, according to BJP city president Ajit Patil Kavhekar. According to the Maharashtra Times, he revealed that two former corporators and seventeen party workers were found to have violated party rules by continuing to disobey repeated orders from the leadership throughout the crucial election time.

The party made it clear in an official statement that office-bearers must always adhere to party rules, policies, and decisions. However, it was discovered that the concerned leaders’ activities were harmful to the unity and discipline of the organization. The issue was thoroughly examined during a meeting of the party’s core committee, according to the Maharashtra Times. After these discussions, it was decided unanimously to remove the identified leaders from all positions they held and to terminate their main membership. The decision was made with immediate effect and in the party’s best interests.
The announcement also mentioned the suspended officials’ six-year ban from the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Latur city district unit. Ajay Kokate, Kishor Kawade, Sandeep Sonawane, Ashok Takatode, Dilip Belurkar, Dipak Kamble, Mahesh Zhanwar, Prithvisingh Bais, Shivsinh Sisodia, Shrikant Ranjankar, Vaibhav Banarse, Bharat Bhosale, Vishal Hawa Patil, Srinivas Landge, Ganesh Hedda, Sangeet Randale, Vallabh Vavre, and Vivek Salunke are among those suspended. During elections, the party reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy for indiscipline.
In the meanwhile, political parties and independent candidates are planning rallies, processions, car campaigns, and the installation of hoardings and banners across the city as part of the extensive campaigning for the Latur Municipal Corporation elections. Teams working under the Model Code of Conduct, such as the Flying Squad Team and Video Surveillance Team, are keeping a careful eye on campaign activities, according to the Maharashtra Times. Two charges against unauthorized hoardings were filed after licenses were confirmed. Additionally, in order to ensure peace and order during the election period, 409 people were subjected to preventative measures, and the police and state excise department confiscated 1,462.25 liters of liquor valued at ₹26.9 lakh.
