Ahmedabad, 13 January 2026: People’s interest in Somnath Temple, which is the center of cultural consciousness and faith of India, is increasing unprecedentedly on digital platforms also. According to the latest data from Google Trends, online searches for Somnath Temple have reached their highest level in the last 20 years. Analyzing the data from the year 2004 to 2025, it appears that in recent months there has been an extraordinary surge in people’s curiosity to know about Somnath Temple.

Google Trends data shows that searches for Somnath Temple were limited and stable from January 2004 to 2010, although there was a gradual increase after 2010. But at the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, this figure suddenly jumped to the highest popularity, which is the biggest record till date.

Experts are directly linking this surge with ‘Modi effect’. Due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statements on the development of Somnath and other pilgrimage sites, the emphasis placed on national class planning and religious tourism, its discussion has increased on social media.

Somnath temple is the first of the 12 Jyotirlingas and has been a center of faith for centuries. But Google’s data proves that now this faith is being strongly reflected not only in the physical but also in the digital world. This is a clear evidence of the increasing awareness towards India’s cultural heritage.
