Most of the focus of tech companies when they talk about their new smartphones smartphoneIt depends on the screen size. Usually the screen of the smartphone can be seen from 6.2 inches to 6.9 inches. But do you know how screen size is measured? Do you know how the length and width of a smartphone screen are measured in a single number?

How is screen size measured?

When someone tells you the screen size, the number is actually the diagonal length of the display. This number is neither the length nor the width of the screen. This number represents the diagonal of the phone i.e. the distance from one corner to the other. This does not include the phone’s corners, bezels, etc. This number is the diagonal length of the glowing screen on the phone. (Photo Courtesy – Pinterest)

The most common size of phone screen

Small (up to 6.2 inches): These phones are small, which can be easily handled with one hand. It fits very well in the pocket. But gaming, video streaming and multitasking on this phone is a bit difficult.

Medium (up to 6.3-6.5 inches): It offers great screen space along with portability. These phones are pocket friendly. This phone is difficult to handle with one hand.

Large (up to 6.6-6.8 inches): A phone of this size is a perfect choice for streaming and gaming and offers immersive visuals. These phones are a bit difficult to hold properly in hand or pocket.

Very Large (larger than 6.9 inches): These smartphone screens are designed for multitasking, gaming and video streaming. The large screen makes this smartphone difficult to hold with one hand and carry in a pocket.

Now, along with smartphones, foldable phones are also being launched, thus adding another new category in screen size. The flip phone has a screen size of 6.7-6.9 inches when the screen is fully unfolded and around 4 inches of screen on the cover. If we talk about the foldable phone, the size of the main screen will be up to 9-10 inches and the cover screen will also be up to 6.4 inches.

Only the size of the screen does not give information about the size of the phone. Apart from screen size, aspect ratio, bezels and screen size are also important.

Aspect Ratio- It is the ratio between the width and height of the screen like 20:9 and 18:9 etc. Currently 19.5:9 and 20:9 ratios are more in trend. This makes scrolling easier and leaves space for more text on the screen. Using split screen apps and watching videos in wider ratio is easier.

JIO Recharge Plan: This is the most expensive recharge plan from the leading telecom company, benefits that come with unlimited 5G data.

Screen to Body Ratio- This shows how much the front of the phone is occupied by the display. A high screen to body ratio means it has thin bezels and it will give an attractive look whereas a phone with a low screen to body ratio means it has thick bezels.
